Terms of service
Who you are dealing with, what a published price includes, what gets quoted separately, and what we will and will not claim about equipment.

Who you are contracting with
Cahaba Water Co. sells water treatment systems and coordinates their installation in Greater Birmingham.
Installation is performed by an Alabama-licensed plumbing contractor — named in the footer of every page, with their license number. Cahaba Water Co. is not itself a licensed plumbing contractor and does not perform plumbing work. The plumbing work on your home is performed by the licensed contractor, who is responsible for it and is licensed, insured and permitted as the work requires.
Prices and quotes
Published prices
Our under-sink drinking water systems carry published, installed prices. That price is the price: it does not change during a visit, and there is no discount for deciding today. It covers the equipment, standard installation as described below, and applicable taxes where we are required to collect them.
Quoted systems
Whole-home systems are quoted in writing after an assessment, because the correct system depends on your measured water and your home's actual flow demand. We do not publish a whole-home price because a published one would be wrong for most houses. You receive the written quote before anything is scheduled.
Written quotes are valid for 30 days unless the quote itself says otherwise.
What standard installation assumes
A published installed price assumes ordinary conditions:
- An accessible main water line, or an accessible point of connection.
- A reasonable location for the equipment, with normal pipe routing.
- A nearby drain where the system requires one.
- Appropriate electrical service nearby where the system requires it.
Where conditions differ, the additional work is quoted separately and in writing before it starts. That can include opening finished walls, extensive crawlspace work, long pipe runs, trenching, core drilling, added electrical, unusual service sizes, pressure boosting, water storage, backflow prevention requirements, and structural modification.
We will tell you about additional cost before we do the work, not on the invoice afterwards. If the conditions make the job unreasonable, we will say so and you will not be charged for the visit.
Paying online, and refunds
Drinking-water systems sold at a published price can be paid for on this site before we schedule. Whole-home systems are quoted after we measure and are not sold that way.
Before installation, you can cancel for any reason and we refund you in full. You do not have to give us a reason, and there is no restocking charge or administrative deduction. Tell us by phone, text or email and we return the payment to the card or account it came from.
That covers the two situations that actually come up:
- You change your mind. Whatever the reason, and whenever, as long as we have not yet installed. Full refund.
- We cannot install it. If the site turns out not to suit the system — no workable location, a plumbing condition that makes the job unreasonable, anything we find when we look — we say so and refund you in full. We do not keep a payment for a job we decline to do.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method. How quickly the money appears is set by your bank or card issuer, not by us.
Once the system is installed the position changes, because the equipment is in your house and the labor has been performed. From that point the warranty below governs, along with your rights under Alabama law. If something is wrong with the installation, tell us — that is what the workmanship warranty is for, and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
Paying online does not confirm an installation date. We contact you to arrange scheduling after the order, and the date is agreed with you.
Scheduling, access and cancellation
Installation requires access to the property and to the equipment location on the scheduled day. If you need to reschedule, tell us as early as you can and we will move it. If we need to reschedule, we will tell you as early as we can.
Warranty
- Workmanship on the installation is warranted by the installing licensed plumbing contractor, on the terms stated in your paperwork.
- Equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty for that product. We will help you make a claim under it.
- Warranties do not cover damage from misuse, freezing, or work performed on the system by someone else.
What we claim about equipment, and what we do not
This matters more in our industry than in most, so we are explicit about it.
- We state a certification only where documentation supports it, and we state it in the certifier's terms rather than in our own.
- We distinguish between a certified complete system, a certified component within a system, a manufacturer's performance claim, and a general capability of the technology. These are four different things and are routinely blurred.
- We never apply one product's certification to a different product, even a similar one.
- We do not claim that municipal water is unsafe, and we do not sell on fear. Birmingham's published water quality data is available on this site with its sources named.
If we cannot show you the listing behind a claim, we will not make the claim.
Limits
We are responsible for doing what we agreed to do, properly. We are not responsible for losses that could not reasonably have been anticipated, and our liability in connection with a system will not exceed what you paid for it, except where the law does not allow that limit.
Nothing here limits any right you have under Alabama or federal law that cannot be limited by agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of Alabama.

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one in effect when you accepted your quote.
